Verbs are words that are about doing. They are something that is done by someone. Depending on what exactly you are trying to say, they may have different endings or words around them.

Active verbs

Most Shiyeyi active verbs are written in the same way as Setswana active verbs. In their most basic form, the form used when you’re talking about something that is happening right now, they usually end with an -a. The similarities and differences can be seen here:

Passive verbs

The passive forms of verbs are used when someone or something has something done to it:

Reciprocal verbs

When people are doing something to each other, that is a reciprocal verb:

Reflexive verbs

When someone is doing something to themself, that is a reflexive verb. This is written differently in Shiyeyi than in Setswana. In Setswana, a reflexive verb is made by adding an i- before the verb, attached to it; this will often change the first letter(s) of the verb it attaches to. In Shiyeyi, a reflexive adds the word ldi before the verb but not attached; there is a space between the word ldi and the verb, as seen below:
